Top 10 Packing Secrets of Professional Packers & Movers
Want to pack like a pro? Check out these 10 insider packing secrets from professional movers to protect your fragile items and maximize box space.
Pack Like a Professional
Ask anyone who has moved recently, and they will tell you: packing is the most exhausting part of shifting. Professional packers handle this task with speed and precision, completing in hours what takes others days. How do they do it? Let's unlock the top packing secrets and techniques used by industry experts.
1. The Heavy-Bottom Rule
Always place heavy items like books, cookware, and canned goods at the bottom of the box. Lighter items like cushions, linens, and plasticware should go on top. This maintains a proper center of gravity, preventing the box from tipping over and making it easier for loaders to lift safely.
2. Say No to Empty Space
Empty spaces inside a box lead to shifts and impacts during transit. If items can move, they can break. Professional movers fill every gap inside a box using crumpled packing paper, foam peanuts, or bubble wrap. Even clean towels or socks can work as excellent padding fillers.
3. Wrapping Glassware Correctly
Never pack glass plates flat. Instead, wrap them individually in packing paper and place them vertically (on their edges) inside the box. They are much stronger when standing than when lying flat. Additionally, stuff the inside of cups and wine glasses with crumpled paper to support their structure.
Pro Tip: Use the 'H-Taping' method. Apply heavy-duty packing tape along the center seams of a box and also along the side edges to create an H-pattern. This distributes pressure and prevents the bottom of the box from giving way.
